Luther

The Town of Luther was established nine years after the 1889 Land Run on March 18, by Luther F. Aldrich of Cumberland County, Illinois. When the railroad extended east along what is now Highway 66, an old friend of Aldrich, C. G. Jones, became interested in the new territory and made land purchases to build towns along the railroad in Oklahoma Territory. Luther offers rural living with all of its benefits – plenty of green spaces, quiet neighborhoods, small businesses, and wonderful schools – located only twenty minutes from the city. With a 2023 population of 1,573, according to the 2020 U.S. Census, Luther is growing at a rate of 1.75% annually. Spanning over 15 miles, Luther has a population density of 103 people per square mile. Luther celebrated its Quasquicentennial, 125 years, in 2023, with a parade and festivities.
